The deer story reminded me about one of the first times I was ever on track.
I was coming around a long, carousel like turn at MSR Houston, and I see this god damn enormous alligator snapping turtle hanging out in the center of the turn. It had to be at least 2.5 feet long and was probably 1.5 feet tall. If I would've hit this thing, it would've easily ripped off my bumper cover, and probably messed up my oil pan or popped a tire or something. Luckily, I saw it in time, and was able to put 2 wheels off to avoid it. So, anyone else hit/have some close calls while on track?

I nearly ran over a bunny on my bike on the outer loop track service road at COTA

Technically not a car story but, I recently almost ran over a diamondback rattlesnake with my bicycle on the Highline Canal Trail, I was going about 15MPH, It was in the middle of the trail. I just barely avoided it by an inch ore two.

My mum has had two stories, both times she was driving home in the dark on a country lane. First time was a rabbit. It appeared in front of her and she managed to stop just in time as it froze in her lights. After a few seconds, it moved to the side of the road. As she proceeded forward, it suddenly rushed back onto the road and my mum promptly ran over it. Crazy rabbit.
The other time was approaching Christmas and as she cruised down the lane, an antlered deer poked its head over the gate of a field. She slowed down to take a good look and it took off.

At Grattan, they have to warn motorcyclists about the turtles, as trying to kick them away will apparently obliterate one's nice leather motorcycle boots AND leave you needing stitches. NOPE.

I came close to running over a white-tailed deer one night. The roads were icy, it was dark, and I didn't expect to see a deer in the middle of a suburban neighborhood in Colorado.

Their everywhere here I once saw one near my house (I25 & Hampden). We also have to worry about Coyotes and Foxes.

I don't live in Colorado, I was just there visiting some friends. Where I live in Texas, we don't get anything nearly as big as deer, so it threw me a little bit. The biggest critters I've seen in my area are a coyote and a bobcat. We get a bunch of snakes though. I got a pit viper in my house once that my neighbor had to kill with a shotgun.
